The Sandbox was a game in pixel art style developed by Pixowl in 2012. In 2018 the company was acquired by Animoca Brands and The Sandbox was transformed into a 3D open-world game based on blockchain technology (Ethereum in particular) released in 2020. Actually,m It is in the Alpha version, but its economy is already active.
How it works?
The Sandbox is a container of virtual worlds, called LAND, purchasable with the crypto $SAND. Indeed, each content is an NFT on sale in the marketplace.
Once you’ve logged in, you can create your avatar and explore the world. In particular, you can visit the different LANDs full of experiences created by other users who are often the owners of the LAND. But, it’s not finished yet, also you can create your content and put it on sale on the marketplace of The Sandbox to earn $SAND to convert then into real money.
The Sandbox Alpha Season 2 Is Now Open!
At the time of writing, The Sandbox launched the second season of its alpha version giving the possibility to win the ticket to access entirely to the second season. It can be an awesome chance to test the great potentiality of the Metaverse.
The simple way to access The Sandbox is to create, first, a crypto portfolio through MetaMask and then use it to create your Sandbox account using that portfolio, it is the same process when you use Google (or Facebook or others) accounts to create an account to log in on other platforms.
My Experience on The Sandbox
I was really excited to try The Sandbox because I’ve read a lot about this Metaverse platform and finally had the chance to try it.
When you login into The Sandbox, you will be teleported into the principal plaza, which is the place where you can reach the other worlds or just to going around, chat with other people, questing and so on. Indeed, I’ve participated in different quests.
Then, I’ve visited a museum where an artist exhibited his works purchasable through $SAND.
Continuing with my exploration, I tried to travel in one of the worlds created by another user. In that LAND. There was a Tutorial that explained to me the rule and mechanics of the proposed game and then I’ve started doing quests and explore the provided content.
Finally, I’ve found Snoop Dogg’s disco but sadly it was closed 🙁
Conclusion
To conclude, my experience with The Sandbox, despite in alpha version, was and will be very exciting. The Sandbox has very limitless potential, not only for gaming but also for other many things, for example, making money in a “smart” way.
